VirtualChannels

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026 · applies to the VirtualChannels app and the virtualchannels.app website.

VirtualChannels is built to be private by design. This policy explains, in plain language, what data the app and this website do — and mostly don't — collect.

The short version

The app: what stays on your device

VirtualChannels runs entirely on your Apple silicon Mac. Channel creation, scheduling, transcoding, and playback happen locally, and the app communicates only with the media libraries and media servers on your own network. Your configuration — the folders you point it at and the channels you build — is stored locally on your Mac.

There is no VirtualChannels account and no login. We do not receive your media, your viewing activity, your file names, or your library contents.

Data the app does not collect

The app does not collect personal information, and it does not include third-party analytics or advertising SDKs or use tracking technologies. It does not request access to your contacts, photos, location, microphone, or camera.

The website and the launch waitlist

If you enter your email address in a signup form on virtualchannels.app, that address is stored on our own self-hosted mailing-list server — not a third-party marketing platform — and is used only to send you launch, beta, pricing, and product updates about VirtualChannels. We do not sell or share it. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes your address from our list.

The website does not use advertising or third-party analytics trackers.

Data retention

Waitlist email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them. Because the app stores its data on your own device, you control that data directly and can remove it at any time by deleting the app's data or the app itself.

Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time, and you can request that we delete your email address by contacting us. Because the app doesn't collect your data, there is nothing on our servers to export or delete for the app itself.

Children's privacy

VirtualChannels is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

The limited data we do hold (waitlist emails) is stored on infrastructure we control. Because the app keeps your media and activity on your own devices and network, that information is protected by your own systems.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and revise the “last updated” date above. Material changes affecting the app's data practices will be reflected here before or alongside the release that introduces them.

Who we are & contact
